Class B foam is used for which type of fire?

Class B foam is specifically designed for extinguishing fires involving flammable liquids such as gasoline, oil, and solvents. This type of foam works by creating a barrier that suffocates the fire and prevents the release of flammable vapors. When applied to a fire involving flammable liquids, the foam forms a blanket over the surface of the liquid, effectively cutting off the oxygen supply and allowing for more efficient fire suppression.

In contrast, other classes are not effectively handled by Class B foam. Fires involving electronic equipment typically require special extinguishing agents that do not conduct electricity, while combustible metals require specific firefighting agents, as water and certain foams can exacerbate those fires.
